30 Cubic Meters of Waste Transported From Pari Island

Entering rainy season, waste from rivers in Jakarta is piling up on Seribu Islands waters.

It is done because it is not a small amount of waste from Jakarta which is carried by the sea currents to the island's south coastal area

In order to handle this waste problem, regency held Gerebek Sampah (massive cleaning) activity that was centered in Pari Island waters, South Seribu Islands Sub-district.

"In addition to maintain island thus it remains clean, Gerebek Sampah is also done to educate locals and tourists for not littering the sea," stated Husein Murad, Seribu Isladns Regent while leading Gerebek Sampah activity in Pari Island, Thursday (11/29).

He explained, his side collected 30 cubic meters of waste from this activity and transported to the mainland using KM Laut Bersih boat.

In the future, his side will intensify cleanliness movement on island's coastal areas, especially in inhabited islands during rainy season.

"It is done because it is not a small amount of waste from Jakarta which is carried by the sea currents to the island's south coastal area," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Seribu Islands Environment (LH) Sub-dept. Head, Yusen Hardiman said, tens janitors, PPSU, and ASN were deployed in this Gerebek Sampah.

"Waste that we have collected is mostly plastic packaging waste," he conveyed.
