Cultural Carnival Parade, Jalan Medan Merdeka Closed

As part of Indonesia’s 69th Independence Day commemorations, a Cultural Carnival Parade will be held on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, this afternoon, Monday (8/18). During that time, the roads around Monas will be temporarily closed and 30 personnel from Jakarta Transportation Department will be deployed to regulate the traffic.
The road closure will be implemented at 2-5 PM
Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, M Akbar, informed that the roads to be closed are Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, and Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara. The parade
will start in front of the State Palace, then continue to Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Medan Merdeka, and finally enter Silang Monas.“The road closure will be implemented at 2-5 PM,” he stated.
Cultural Carnival Parade, City to Perform 2 Giant MasksFor that, Jakarta Transportation Department has prepared traffic diversions. Here they are:
- Traffic from Jalan MH Thamrin (south side) towards Harmoni, Tomang, and Kota is diverted to Jalan MH Thamrin – Jalan Budi Kemuliaan – Jalan Abdul Muis – Jalan Majapahit (west side) – Harmoni – so on.
- Traffic from Jalan Hayam Wuruk (north side) or from Jalan Suryopranoto (west side) towards Jalan MH Thamrin (south side) is diverted to Jalan H Juanda – Jalan Pos – Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara – Jalan Pejambon – Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur – Jalan MI Ridwan Rais – then turn at Tugu Tani.
- Traffic from Tugu Tani cannot pass on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, must head straight to Gambir Station and so on.
- Traffic from Pasar Baru (west side) towards Harmoni, Tomang, and Kota is diverted to Jalan Pos – Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara – Jalan Pejambon – Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur – Jalan MI Ridwan Rais – then turn at Tugu Tani – so on.
- TransJakarta bus corridor II (Pulogadung-Harmoni) will not pass Gambir Bus Stop.
“Drivers are urged to follow the directions of officers in the field and look for alternative routes to prevent getting stuck in the traffic,” said Akbar.
