Poktan RW 04 Tidung Island Harvested First Hydroponically-grown Bok Choy

We got two kilograms of bok choy and five kilograms of morning glory

Farmers group (Poktan) of RW 04 Tidung Island Urban Village, South Thousand Islands, develop hydroponic farming to grow various vegetables. Today, they harvested bok choy for the first time using hydroponic system at Tidung Island PKK Garden.

RW 04 Poktan Head, Sarwiyah mentioned, her group has harvested morning glory for several times, but it is the first time for bok choy.

"Today we harvest bok choy and morning glory at the same time. But, this is our first time harvesting bok choy. We got two kilograms of bok choy and five kilograms of morning glory," she informed, Monday (3/18).

All yields are given to local residents and Poktan members for their own consumption.

Tidung Island Urban Village Head, Cecep Suryadi said, his side continues to intensify hydroponic farming implementation in the area thus locals can fulfill their needs of vegetables without buying it.

"Surely, locals can reach food secure and improve their income if they are serious to develop hydroponic farming in their areas," he mentioned.

For information, there are five Poktans in Tidung Island. Those are Poktan Tidung Ceria, Poktan Payung Sejahtera, Poktan Halltop RW 02, Poktan RW 04 and Poktan Cemara Kasih.
