Sakura Waste Bank in Untung Jawa Island Urban Village is potential to improve economy for the locals in addition to reducing waste.
We hope more residents are interested to join to be waste bank members
This waste bank is managed by local's PKK and Karang Taruna. It is located behind Karang Taruna Secretariat of Untung Jawa Island, South Thousand Islands, with size of 4x5 meters.
According to Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head, Supriyadi conveyed, there are 20 waste bank members who have saving books to note their earnings from collecting waste.
Sebira Island People Trained on Making Waste Bank"At least, we can collect around two quintal plastic waste per week and earn Rp 500 thousand from selling it," he conveyed, Monday (4/29).
The collected waste is separated into plastic bottle and plastic package that can be used by PKK to create handicrafts such as bag, bracelet, and others.
"We hope more residents are interested to join to be waste bank members because it gives benefits, both for environment and their economy," he said.
