Basuki Demands Demonstration Coordinator Pay Compensation on Damaged Parks

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama stressed that Jakarta Provincial Government will ask the winning team of president and vice president candidate number 1, Prabowo-Hatta, to pay the price on damaged parks caused by Prabowo-Hatta supporters when they staged demonstration coincided with Constitutional Court (MK) verdict on the 2014 presidential election result dispute, Thursday (8/21).

I’ve asked Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department to send a letter to the person in charge of yesterday’s demonstration. We will ask them to pay the compensation for the loss caused (damaged parks)

“I’ve asked Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department to send a letter to the person in charge of yesterday’s demonstration. We will ask them to pay the compensation for the loss caused (damaged parks),” he stated, Friday (8/22).

According to Basuki, this time Jakarta Provincial Government will not give exception.

Parks Damaged, City Suffers Loss Hundreds of Millions Rupiah

“This destructive action is the second time. Some time ago, the supporters were also damaging city parks around General Election Commission (KPU) office,” he told.

Because of that, Basuki admitted that he has instructed Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department, Nandar Sukandar, to send a letter and attach photos of damaged parks as proofs.

“I assume that the demonstrators who were trying to reach MK area were not Jakarta citizens. It’s impossible for them to damage their own parks,” he said.

In the future, Basuki wants to criminally charge the people who have damaged parks and public facilities in Jakarta.

“We’re going to install sharper image CCTVs, so the faces of people who damaged public facilities can be detected. We will charge them criminally. But now, we can’t do that. Even to detect the people who have vandalized the City Hall we can’t get their faces,” he uttered.
