Parks Damaged, City Suffers Loss Hundreds of Millions Rupiah

The demonstration action yesterday, Thursday (8/21), has caused city parks damaged. It is recorded that the damaged parks are the ones located on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, precisely at Bank Indonesia (BI) Roundabout, Patung Kuda, and in front of the Constitutional Court (MK). Because of this, Jakarta Provincial Government suffers loss up to hundreds of millions rupiah.

“After being inventoried, budget as much as Rp 100-200 million is needed to repair damaged parks. We’ll finish repairing them in about two weeks, because those parks are located in protocol road,” stated Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department, Nandar Sunandar, Friday (8/22).

As known, thousands of people were staging demonstration action following the announcement of MK verdict on the 2014 presidential election result dispute. The action also invited street vendors to come and hawk their wares on green belts.

Pramuka Park can Be Used Scouting Activities

Based on beritajakarta.com observations yesterday, tens of street vendors were occupying green belts behind Jenderal Sudirman Statue and across Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry building. As a result, the parks become dirty and the grass and plants are dead because of stepped on by people. Ironically, not a single officer from parks department nor Satpol PP was seen guarding the parks and banishing the street vendors.
