Anies' Message to City's 492nd Anniversary

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan leads a ceremony for commemorating the city's 429nd anniversary at Lapangan Silang Monas, Central Jakarta attended by ranks of Jakarta Provincial Government, Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), Betawian figures and so forth, Saturday (6/22).

Anies said that Jakarta wants to share stories about the good changes that have been achieved in which changes that have resulted in the New Face of Jakarta as Indonesia's proud city.

"New face of Jakarta that doesn't forget the ancestral cultural roots. This is what we always want to achieve the development goals of the Jakarta, which is to realize Jakarta by advancing its city and happy citizens," he expressed.

It is not only a surface change, not only about physical development, but also about programs, regulations, and policies that bring justice to all.

"This is also about public facilities that are free to be used for cultural and religious activities, an integrated and unregistered transportation system, PBB is just for those who have contributed to the nation, as well as policies that maintain the sovereignty of every inch of our land," he explained.

He also wants to make a fundamental paradigm change about city development. He intends to develop a city that is equal, prosperous, advanced, alive, sustainable and unite.

"Equal is about the availability of opportunities, facilities and benefits that are fair to all citizens. Prosperous, where economic conditions are well maintained, basic needs of citizens are fulfilled, and support is available for those who are weak. Advance, Jakarta as a world-class megapolitan that is orderly, civilized, full of innovation, and a benchmark for other cities," he added.

He also advised participants to bring the spirit of Jakarta's new face to every aspect of their professionalism, thus it grows new and developed creativity.

"Let's continue working with a spirit of novelty, bringing new insights, with new perspectives. Create always breakthroughs, innovation, creativity, novelty, with tangible results that can be felt directly by all components of society," he stated.

He closed the ceremony by giving appreciation to several parties, including to the activists of the PKK, Dharma Wanita, and Dekranasda for their services to empower the community. Specifically, he also thanked the Betawian people.

"We can be here because of the Betawian people who facilitated all. Thanks to the hospitality of them, and their attitude that considers each newcomer as a brother is what makes us able to be here. Therefore we give special appreciation to them who are the unity platform in this city," he closed.
