Basuki Considering Charging Retribution to Blok G Market Traders

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama is currently considering to charge retribution to the traders in Tanah Abang Blok G Market, Central Jakarta.

It seems impossible (the traders get) free all the time. We’re considering it

“It seems impossible (the traders get) free all the time. We’re considering it,” he stated, Tuesday (9/2).

According to Basuki, the retribution will be adjusted with existing facilities.

“It depends where the trains connect. So, later if the (Tanah Abang) train station connected through bridge to Blok G Market and elevator. When it’s done, we’ll consider what it would be like,” he said.

On the other hand, Basuki questioned Blok G Market traders who reasoned they cannot afford to pay their kiosks’ rent.

“That’s why we’re considering it. There are many reasons, actually, but the most delicate is indeed trading on the street,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, PD Pasar Jaya Director, Djangga Lubis, told that his party will still evaluate on whether the free rental kiosk needs to be extended or not. This is because many street vendors have been given place to trade for free, but not occupied.

“We will evaluate. We’ll record the traders who are still trading. But for the street vendors who do not occupy their kiosks, what is the use to extend (the free rental kiosks),” he uttered.
