Starting on September 15, 2014, the time of visit and operational in the National Monument (Monas) will be restricted. The policy was taken following the existence of street vendors (PKL) who illegally conduct trade around the Monas as wide as 82 hectares, especially at night
We open at 4 AM-8 PM on Tuesday-Sunday and Monday only until 10 AM
"We learned what the situation is like, and in fact the Monas is more festive at night. That means this situation would automatically attract many street vendors to get in," said Head of Monas Technical Management, Rini Haryani, Friday (9/5).
Street Vendors Accused of IRTI Monas Market Kiosks TradingHaryani continued that her side and other related units were agree to close the Monas area early on September 15 and will be announced to all visitors through banners. "We'll soon install banners to announce our new rule," she explained.
In the rule, she explained, Monas' operational time will be restricted at 4 AM-8 PM (Tuesday-Sunday) and 4-10 AM (Monday). "We open at 4 AM-8 PM on Tuesday-Sunday and Monday only until 10 AM," she asserted.
According to her, the main reason why she shorten the operational time on Monday is due to the small number of visitors. Additionally, Monday was also designated as a day of evaluation work for a week. "Time on Monday will be used for consolidation and then be evaluated," she said.
She hoped that street vendors in Monas could understand and realize the Monas area as a cultural heritage. There are many traces of history that should be protected and cannot be littered with merchandise.
"I've also decided, this area (Monas) is an area of the museum. So vendors have to understand it," she stressed.
