Renovation of Governor's Official Home Taken to Maintain Cultural Heritage Building

The Jakarta Cipta Karya, Land and Spatial Planning Agency Heru Hermawanto explains the old building which is used as the Jakarta Governor's official home is a historic building and has the status of a cultural preservation.

Its building began functioning since 1916 for the Mayor of Batavia Mayor's House. Since 1949, it has been used as the official home of Jakarta Provincial Government and has passed a long historical moment.

"This building's historical value makes the official home now as a cultural heritage that must be cared for and protected. It is the city's duty and obligation to periodically maintain cultural heritage buildings in Jakarta, including the governor's official house, either it is empty or not," Hermawanto expressed as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Tuesday (10/8).

December, Bawaslu Building Renovation Completed

His plans to renovate the building to repair the damage that occurs due to age of the building, which aims to maintain the preservation of cultural heritage buildings.

"The term used in government programs is renovation, but actually this is a reparation activity," he explained.

He asserted information in the community and explained that the renovation of this old building were not aimed at beautifying, but aimed at repairing all the damage due to the age of the building that is getting older.

Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda) Head Sri Mahendra Satria Wirawan uttered the planning and budgeting for renovation process began in 2015. All is done through existing mechanisms and procedures that take into account damage level and also maintain good governance.

"The detailed plan was completed in 2016 and entered into the 2017 RAPBD discussion. On October 2, 2016, the renovation plan was ratified in the 2017 APBD worth Rp 2.9 billion," she told.

The plan was not realized in 2017 and was revised in the 2018 RAPBD discussion. Unfortunately it had to be cancelled in 2018 due to the governor's direction not to prioritize renovation of house buildings.

"At that time, the plan is not included in the 2018 and 2019 planning program yet in 2020 due to emergency reason," she told.

The planning for 2020 is implemented with a re-search for reparation needs thus savings can be made.

"Initially, in 2017 APBD, we set Rp 2.9 billion. After being reviewed, we can save Rp 2.4 billion or 20 percent from the previous budget," she explained.

As for the information, the age of the old building has made many parts, especially the wood on the roof, decreased quality and cannot be maintained.

"This cultural heritage must continue to be cared for, whoever the Governor is in office. Moreover the current governor and its families do not live in the official home but always live in his private home, so the repair process will be simpler," he added.

Both guarantee that all procedures and provisions of good and proper governance are adhered to in carrying out the process of reparation of this cultural heritage building. They also stressed, the budget savings of up to about 20 percent are the result of the city's review over the renovation plan that is in the 2017 APBD.

As for the information, since being inducted in 2017, the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his family have not lived in the official home. However, he chose to stay in his private home in Lebak Bulus area, South Jakarta.
