“Jakarta is currently in a clean water crisis, and one of the ways to maintain water supply is by making absorption wells. We’re targeting as many as 1,250 absorption wells built this year,” stated South Jakarta Mayor, Syamsuddin Noor, Wednesday (9/17).
According to Noor, the absorption wells will be built in mosque complexes, considering mosque is worship place that does not contaminated much with waste or sewage.
200 Absorption Wells to Be Built in West Jakarta“Many daily activities in mosque use water. So the water won’t be a waste, it will be flowed to absorption well holes,” he explained.
Since there is a system to be made in the absorption wells construction, Noor asks Jakarta Industry and Energy Department to be involved.
“The absorption wells are not haphazardly made, because the groundwater quality must be restored as well. So, there should be mentoring from the Industry and Energy Department,” he said.
In addition, Noor hopes for the awareness from the entrepreneurs to take part in helping this absorption wells construction as well as in preserving the environment with companies’ social activities.
“Yes, they could allocate their CSR programs for the making of absorption wells. Like in Pancoran Sub-District, there is company willing to build 137 absorption wells in about 56 mosque complexes,” he uttered.
