Petukangan River Dredged

Water overflowing is always happen if rain pours our residential. As a result, flooding cannot be avoided

Friday (9/19), the East Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department has finally dredged the Petukangan River which is the cause of flooding over the last 20 years. The river itself is located near citizen residential in RW 04 and 05 Rawa Terate Urban Village, Cakung, East Jakarta.

Based on the observation in the field, an amphibian equipment is sent to the field to dredge trashes and mud in the river.

Sofyan, (50), a local citizen of RW 04 stated it is already more than 20 years, the Petukangan River has not been dredged and caused silting. The current wide of the river only leaves between 10-12 meters. All this time, the river is strewn with weeds as high as 50-100 centimeters, causing water overflowing. 

"Water overflowing is always happen if rain pours our residential. As a result, flooding cannot be avoided," he expressed.

According to Subandi, Head of Water Management Public Works Section, Cakung Sub-District, the dredging is carried out along 1 kilometer with 1.5 meters of the river, and is targeted to be done within two months. Its process is started from Rawa Terate sluice gate until beside PT Kramayudha building, which is located adjacent to Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village, Kelapa, North Jakarta.

 

"We use heavy equipment. If we do it manually, the dredging would take a long time," he expressed.
