Pasar Rebo PPKPI Students Produce Thousands Cloth Face Masks

Pasar Rebo Training Center and Industrial Development (PPKPI), East Jakarta, participated in the effort to handle disease (COVID-19) by producing thousands face masks. It will be distributed to the citizens through Jakarta Government's donation activity.

Thousands face masks were made by PPKPI students in fashion design major with assistance from their alumnus. Some of them made the masks in fashion practice room and the others made it from home.

Pasar Rebo PPKPI Head, Budi Karlia Setiyanto conveyed, Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration (Nakertrans) and Energy Agency targeted his side to produce 2,500 face masks. But apparently the production exceeded the target with total 4,814 face masks within a week which created by 34 students and alumnus.

"It is a part of our support in preventing COVID-19 transmission by making cloth face masks. Later on, it will be donated to Jakarta Government," he stated, Tuesday (4/14).

On Monday (4/13), he continued, as many as 1,000 face masks have been submitted to Jakarta Nakertrans and Energy Agency. The next day, 700 face masks have been also submitted to the agency and later on Wednesday (4/15) his side will submit 1,000 face masks.

One of the instructor of face mask production in Pasar Rebo PPKPI, Eny Kurniawati explained, her team used cotton fabric as the basic material for making cloth face mask. Each face mask is made in two layers with size 18x13 cm. So far, she assessed, her team didn't experience any problem in making face masks.

"Depend on their skills, each students can produce around 41-100 face masks per day," she mentioned.
