IKM and UKM Empowered to Produce 2 Million Cloth Face Masks

Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperative, and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Agency produces two millions of cloth face masks to be distributed for free to public.

For its production, it involves 1,526 small medium industries (IKM)s and small medium enterprises (UKM)s in fashion sector under PPKUKM in 5 municipalities and 1 regency.

Jakarta PPKUKM Acting Head (Plt), Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo mentioned, her side is targeted 173,674 face masks could be produced per day or 1,042,044 face masks per week.

"We also empower UKMs and IKMs in public housings and prisons in DKI Jakarta. Total estimated cloth face masks they produced in two weeks are 2,084,088 pieces," she said, Tuesday (4/21).

She explained, the coached IKMs and UKMs are producing 3-ply cloth face masks that can cover nose and mouth well to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

"This cloth face mask is suitable for daily use because it is smooth, comfortable and can be washed again, and dries quickly. Its distribution will be carried out by Perumda Pasar Jaya," she conveyed.

During Large-scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), she assessed, it is important to use face mask when doing activities outside and carry out a clean and healthy lifestyle.

"People are required to wear face mask when going outside in order to minimize the transmission of COVID-19," she stated.

Her side shared number of tips on washing cloth mask. Before using it, be sure to wash face mask using detergent. Then, make sure to always wash your hands using soap and running water or clean your hands using hand sanitizer contains of 70 percent alcohol before and after touching the mask.

"In addition, make sure the mask is tightly closed the nose, mouth, until the bottom of the chin. Replace the mask if it is damp or wet and if you want to remove mask, you just need to hold the hook and wash the mask thoroughly," she explained.
