Reported by Rudi Hermawan | Translated by Maria Inggita
Some people in Jakarta tend to feel hot due to rising temperature during the day for the last few days.
Climatologically, April-May-June is recorded as the months where hot temperature is at its peak in Jakarta, besides October-November
Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)'s Climatology Division Deputy Head, Herizal explained, hot weather is generally caused by high temperature and it is accompanied by low humidity, especially when the sky is clear with a few clouds, thus sunlight is transmitted more directly to the earth surface.
As predicted by BMKG, around these months, we are entering the transition period from rainy season to dry season thus not many clouds that cover most areas in the southern parts of Indonesia.
BMKG: Partly Cloudy in Jakarta All DaySeason transition is marked by the eastern wind which blows from Australian Continent (Australian Monsoon), especially in the southern part of Indonesia. The Australian Monsoon is dry and doesn't carry moisture which prevents cloud growth.
Combination between small amount of clouds, as well as high air temperatures and less humidity tend to cause the blistering heat that most people felt lately.
"Climatologically, April-May-June is recorded as the months where hot temperature is at its peak in Jakarta, besides October-November," he mentioned in his written statement, Wednesday (4/23).
According to him, the trend of rising temperature is not only occurred in Indonesia, but also many places in the world, which became known as the phenomenon of global warming. Global average temperature monitoring records a new record of world highest temperature every year.
The World Meteorological Agency (WMO) on its release on January 15, 2020 stated that 2019 is the second hottest year since 1850, after 2016.
