Rp 6 Million, Revenue from Meter Parking on Jalan Sabang

Meter parking trial implemented on Jalan Agus Salim (Sabang), Central Jakarta, this week is quite successful. Besides reducing traffic congestion, the system is also able to increase regional revenue from parking retribution up to 12-fold from previously Rp 500 thousand per day to Rp 6 million per day now.

(Meter parking) transactions now hit Rp 6 million per day. All this time, retribution collection from parking on Jalan Sabang was only Rp 500 thousand per day

“(Meter parking) transactions now hit Rp 6 million per day. All this time, retribution collection from parking on Jalan Sabang was only Rp 500 thousand per day,” stated Head of Parking Technical Management Unit (UPT) for Jakarta Transportation Department, Sunardi Sinaga, Friday (10/3).

Now, Parking UPT is targeting revenue from meter parking on Jalan Sabang to exceed Rp 14 million per day as long as the sidewalks are being repaired and people pay parking fees truthfully. The sidewalks need to be repaired because only 50 percent of sidewalks there can be used as parking lots, while the other 50 percent had to be repaired.

“At this time, only 50 percent of sidewalks can be used for parking. We also cannot monitor motorists’ honesty for parking,” he said.

Additionally, e-money system will also be implemented to increase parking income. But, Parking UPT is still coordinating with banks for its implementation. Those banks must also hold investment tender first.

“With e-money implementation, transaction target would be achieved,” told Sinaga.
