Parking Meter Machines Installed in 300 Locations Next Year

Despite having flaws, the meter parking policy implemented on Jalan Sabang, Central Jakarta, is quite a success. Not only boosting regional revenue from parking retribution, the policy is also able to reduce traffic congestion in that area. Because of that, Jakarta Transportation Department plans to install more parking meter machines in 300 locations all around the city next year.

Yes, it is planned that 300 locations besides Jalan Sabang will be installed with parking meter machines

“Yes, it is planned that 300 locations besides Jalan Sabang will be installed with parking meter machines. Now, we’re still looking for the locations and also in investment auction phase which targeted to finish this end of year. Thus, next year the machines could be installed in determined locations,” stated Head of Parking Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for Jakarta Transportation Department, Sunardi Sinaga, Tuesday (9/30).

According to Sinaga, based on the evaluation done, the implementation of meter parking on Jalan Sabang is able to reduce traffic congestion in that area and at the same time increase parking retribution revenue. Previously, parking retribution revenue on Jalan Sabang was only around Rp 400,000-Rp 500,000 per day. Now, it is skyrocketing to Rp 5 million per day.

Meter Parking Policy on Jalan Sabang will Be Evaluated

If the parking meter machines have finished installed in 300 locations, the parking retribution revenue will surely increasing significantly. Moreover, later the machine’s payment system will no longer use coins but to use electronic money. Thus, it is predicted that the total of revenue from on street parking for a year would reach Rp 26 billion.

“It can be imagined if the meter parking (policy) implemented in these 300 locations, how much revenue that could be gained from parking sector every year. Moreover, meter parking also can reduce traffic congestion,” he uttered.
