Gulkarmat Continues to Disinfect Social and Public Facilities in Jakarta

Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Agency continues to disinfect social and public facilities in Jakarta. In order to optimize the disinfectant spraying, Gulkarmat Agency provides 1,416 pails of calcium hypocholorite powder to make disinfectant liquid.

In order to prevent COVID-19 transmission, the powder was distributed to sub-agencies and sub-districts to carry out disinfectant spraying in social and public facilities and worship places in Jakarta.

Jakarta Gulkarmat Agency's Rescue Division Head, Suheri mentioned, local residents who need disinfectant spraying can inform to the local Gulkarmat Sub-agency.

"People can request to the local Gulkarmat directly and inform their contact thus later our team can coordinate with them. Our target for disinfectant spraying according to prevention guide is crowd places or objects that often held," he explained, Wednesday (6/24).

According to him, each pail of disinfectant powder contain of chlorine which can be used to disinfect areas or objects in accordance with the standards or recommendation of Jakarta Health Department and Jakarta Environment Agency.

He continued, for indoor spraying, it needs chlorine content of 0.5 percent. Meanwhile for outdoor spraying, it needs chlorine content of 0.05 percent.

"It needs 0.05 percent chlorine level for outdoor or open space because of UV sunlight. But for indoor, we use 0.5 percent because chlorine leaves residue so we immediately clean it with cloth after 15 minutes. It is according to the recommendation from Jakarta Health Agency and Environment Agency," he mentioned.

Gulkarmat Agency personnel, he added, always equipped with complete personal protective equipment (PPE) and sprayers in doing their duties. After disinfecting the area, personnel and sprayers will be disinfected to ensure personnel's healthy and safety.

"Gulkarmat Agency has two units, where each units, both perwira 1 and perwira 2 have been introduced and given knowledge about hazardous materials, and they can give command or become safety officers for their comrades," he closed.
