Have Debt, Electricity for Parks and Cemeteries Cut Off

Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) cut off the electricity in several parks and cemeteries in Jakarta due to payment arrears. This condition makes the areas are prone of crime and sex abuse.

We have arrears Rp 2.79 billion for August and September 2014

Head of Jakarta Dept. of Parks and Cemeteries, Nandar Sunandar, admitted there are 387 locations of park and cemetery having blackout since September 29, 2014.

"We have arrears Rp 2.79 billion for August and September 2014," he said, Thursday (10/9).

His side tries to seek a way out by proposing additional budget. In fact, the process is too slow because it must be agreed by city council.

"The process is too long. From department to province, from province to city council, plenary meeting to issue Local Regulation (Perda), and it can be processed. We hoped the related institution to speed up the process," he explained.

One of the location of blackout park is in Menteng, Central Jakarta. There are 23 parks without lighting.

"Especially for Bonang Park, we ask assist from local citizens and urban village office, while the rests are department's responsibility," said Bondan Diah Ekowati, Head of Menteng Sub-district.
