Walhi Jakarta Appreciates City for Implementing KBRL Policy

Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) Jakarta appreciated Jakarta Government's policy which bans the use of disposable plastic bags through Gubernatorial Regulation No. 142/2019 concerning Obligation to Use Eco-friendly Shopping Bag in Shopping Centers, Supermarkets, and Traditional Markets.

Jakarta can be role model for other provinces in Indonesia

Walhi Jakarta Executive Director, Tubagus Soleh Ahmadi mentioned, Jakarta Government's policy regarding implementation of eco-friendly shopping bag (KBRL) usage is appropriate and shows government's commitment and concern towards environment.

"We appreciate the implementation of Gubernatorial Regulation No. 142/2019 concerning Obligation to Use Eco-friendly Shopping Bag," he stated, Monday (7/6).

Anies Expects Jakarta to Be More Environmentally Friendly

According to him, other provinces should follow Jakarta Government in making special regulation that regulates KBRL usage. Thus Indonesia can be more eco-friendly.

"Jakarta can be role model for other provinces in Indonesia. We all know that plastic waste is very difficult to decompose," he asserted.

He expected Jakarta Government to intensify KBRL socialization thus Jakarta residents could be more aware of the impacts of plastic bags which pollute the environment.

"The higher people's awareness, the more optimal city's efforts in reducing plastic waste. Moreover, Pergub No. 142/2019 also regulates about strict sanctions for the violators. Thus we hope it could work well," he said.
