Electricity Short-circuit Still Dominates Fire Cases in East Jakarta

The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency has noted that the number of fire cases in East Jakarta is reaching 165 cases. From that number, the highest case is caused by electricity short-circuit.

The highest cause of fire due to electricity short-circuit is reaching 112 cases

Gatot Sulaeman, Division Head of Fire and Rescue disclosed those 165 cases consisted of fire in residential buildings (30 cases), public buildings (30 cases), industrial buildings (2 cases), vehicles (16 cases), garbage (7 cases), outdoor installations (54 cases), stall (1 case), other cases (10 cases).

It was followed by gas stove (19 cases), cigarette (4 cases) and other causes (30 cases).

Jakartans, Beware of Potential Fire in Dry Season

"The highest cause of fire due to electricity short-circuit is reaching 112 cases. That's why we continue to urge residents to be more alert. Especially during the dry season, they must use electricity according to the applicable procedures," he expressed, Tuesday (7/14).

"Along January until now, we have involved 539 fire engines to handle fire cases," he told.

Due to this disaster, seven were killed and seven others injured.

"Some 85 households or 571 people lost their homes during the fire, resulting in an estimated Rp 12.7 billion in losses," he stated.
