Number of Public Transportation Passengers Increases by 4.4 Percent

The Jakarta Transportation Agency has recorded that there is a 4.4 percent increase in the number of public transport passengers on the first day of monitoring the odd-even plate policy system.

By so, offices or companies will be disciplined to apply the principle of 50 percent (work from home) and 50 percent (work in office)

Based on the data gathered, on July 27 or prior to odd-even plate policy, the number of public transportation passengers reaches 742,315 and has increased by 774,952 on August 3 after the policy is applied.

In details, there are 318,155 passengers who ride Transjakarta bus on July 27 and have increased by 5,96 percent to 337,118 passengers on August 3.

While for people who ride the commuter line train on the same date reaches 400,600 and has increased by 3.5 percent to 414,637 passengers on August 3.

As for the number of LRT passengers on the same date reaches 849 and has increased by 30.85 percent to 1,026 on August 3.

Yet there is a decrease number in MRT passengers, which reaches 22,711 and has decreased by 2.38 to 22,171 on August 3.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo said, to handle the surge passengers, we had alerted a number of the existing bus to the field.

"Based on our calculation results at rush hours, the highest available capacity is 40 percent. This means that there are still 60 percent of empty seats that can be optimized during rush hours," he expressed, Wednesday (8/5).

He added the odd-even plate policy this time was different before the pandemic. It aimed to move the movement of citizens from private vehicles to public transportation, whereas during the odd-even pandemic was an instrument limiting the movement of people thus they did not make unnecessary trips.

"By so, offices or companies will be disciplined to apply the principle of 50 percent (work from home) and 50 percent (work in office), and divided at least two shifts, that's the purpose," he stated.
