City Has Monitored Plastic-free Lifestyle in 2,194 Locations

Jakarta Environmental Agency has intensified supervision on the mandatory use of eco-friendly shopping bags in 2,194 locations of malls, traditional markets and supermarkets during July.

The punish is more about coaching before being sanctioned

According to Andono Warih, Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, findings last July were recorded in a dossier (BAP) to be followed up with corrections by the manager where the violation was found.

In August, his side was going to conduct a sudden inspection. If the violation was found again in the same location, the violator would be subject to administrative sanctions in stages, namely three written warnings, forced money in stages up to Rp 25 million, license suspension and license revocation.

"Violator data has been entered into our database. If they do the same mistake, we will impose the first written warning administrative sanction," he expressed, Friday (8/7).

He expressed the sanction was only imposed on the three legal subjects regulated in the regulation, namely mall, supermarket and traditional market, except the shopper.

"The punish is more about coaching before being sanctioned. Sanctions are given in stages," he explained.

It aimed at ensuring that Jakarta was becoming more environmentally friendly and that activities in the community did not produce residue, as it cannot be recycled.

"Besides sanctions, the government also gives opportunities for business actors to obtain fiscal incentives next year or one year after the gubernatorial regulation comes into effect," he stated.
