I Quit if Taufik is Elected as Governor, Basuki Says

The Jakarta Governor seat that just left by Joko Widodo, now become some politician target. But, Jakarta Acting Governor (Plt), Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) chooses to resign from his position if Head of DPD Gerindra Mohamad Taufik becomes Jakarta Governor.

This is not a good legal precedent. So, Taufik's guess, if the Governor resign, the Vice not come up

"This is not a good legal precedent. So, Taufik's guess, if the Governor resign, the Vice not come up. The Governor still elected by City Council," said Basuki at City Hall, Friday (10/23).

He added, the scenario related of law prediction that is proposed by Taufik is to facilitate him in becoming the Jakarta Governor.

"If it happen, I prefer to quit than become the vice of crazy man like Taufik,  I really lazy to do that," he added.

Besides, according to Basuki, Law No. 1/2014 on section 203 mentioned that the Governor can choose their own Vice. But, the Vice of Jakarta City Council prefers to find the loopholes by using another article in the law.

"If it happen, this country have chaotic in the statecraft. Maybe he wants to find the misguided legal expert to support his argument. Because of it, I don't want to confuse it. We do our work and not discuss that problem," he uttered.

Previously M Taufik sees the Law No. 29/2007 about the Jakarta specialty not to manage the mechanism about the Head regional if the position is left in middle term. Meanwhile, Law No. 32/2004 is invalid because the rise of Law No. 23/2014 about the Regional Government. This Law is no longer valid after SBY issued the Perppu No 1/2014.

Refers to the rule, in Articel 174 mentioned, the Regional Head who left the position is not automatically replaced by the Regional Vice. The Regional Head is elected by the City Council if the rest of his remain term is above 18 months. So, City Council can give two candidates name for this.
