Regent: Please Don't Crowd on New Year's Eve

Thousand Islands Regent Junaedi has uged the public to remain at home during New Year's Eve due to potential COVID-19 transmission

We've held socialization, if we still find the crowd, we will act decisively

As a guide, he issued Regent's Call number 480/2020 on control of community activities in prevention of COVID-19 on Christmas and New Year holidays. It was made to follow up on Governor's Call number 17/2020.

"We're going to coordinate with related units related with tightening monitoring, including giving advice and directions to resort and homestay managers from holding activities that have the potential to make a crowd," he expressed, on the sidelines of a ceremony regarding joint security amid Christmas and New Year holidays, Thursday (12/31).

Regent Asks Public to Stay at Home During New Year Holidays

He continued, based on this afternoon's monitoring results at tourist sites, there was no spike in visitors on Untung Jawa, Pari, and Tidung islands.

"This shows that the public is starting to understand the dangerous impact of COVID-19  which is currently increasing. Hopefully, in the future, we can be in green zone again considering we are in yellow zone," he explained.

In the meantime, Thousand Islands Satpol PP Head Rahmat Efendi Lubis added, as many as 120 personnel assisted by the 130 police and 30 armies had been prepared to prevent the crowd in the field.

According to him, they would put forward persuasive and firm ways thus residents and tourists comply with the rules.

"We've held socialization, if we still find the crowd, we will act decisively," he said.
