Red Chili Peppers Circulating in Jakarta are Safe from Dyes

Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency Head Suharini Eliawati made sure that the red chili peppers circulating in the Jakarta markets were safe from dye paint.

Her agency was routinely monitoring markets after there was a case of counterfeiting red chili peppers in Central Java sometime ago. Chilies were colored red to increase the selling price.

"We had took some samples from nine traditional markets and they are still safe from the case," she expressed, Sunday (1/3).

Those nine markets were Tomang Barat, Ganefo, Laris, Pos Pengumben, Kalideres, Klender, Cempaka Putih, Johar Baru, and Pasar Minggu.

"We flush the samples and dip the thinner liquid to prove the existence of paint coloring. And the result is no dye content," she told.

Nevertheless if any residents have doubts about the food they buy, they may contact the KPKP Unit officers in the nearest sub-district.
