Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency has noted that as many as 42,855 animals have been vaccinated during 2020.

Our hope is residents must be responsible animal owners

Jakarta KPKP Agency Acting Head Suharini Eliawati said, anti-rabies vaccination was held in five regions, including in Thousand Islands.

Of the 42,855 animals, she detailed, 4 of them were dogs and 6,398 were cats (Thousand Islands), followed by 1,968 dogs, 4,096 cats, 61 monkeys and 25 weasels (North Jakarta).

East Jakarta KPKP Vaccinates 10,557 Animals

Then 1,499 dogs, 5,080 cats, 21 monkeys and 44 weasels (Central Jakarta), 2,103 dogs, 6,398 cats, 35 monkeys and 53 weasels (West Jakarta).

Further 2,508 dogs, 7,963 cats, 19  monkeys and 67 weasels (East Jakarta), 1,982 dogs, 6,561 cats, 33 monkeys and 138 weasels (South Jakarta), as well as 49 dogs, 601 cats, 21 monkeys and one weasel (at the animal health services center).

"This number has exceeded our target set at 31,500 animals," she expressed, Tuesday (1/5).

She continued, rabies virus is an acute infectious disease that attacks the nervous system in humans and warm-blooded animals. Transmission itself is through the saliva of animals such as dogs, cats, monkeys and weasels that are infected through open wounds.

"Our hope is residents must be responsible animal owners. Surely public concern for animals in the surrounding environment can help Jakarta be free from rabies," she hoped.
