Anticipating Flood, Pluit Reservoir Pump House is on Standby for 24 Hours

In this rainy season, Jakarta Government continues to anticipate flood in Jakarta. One of its efforts is to prepare and ensure pump houses in a good condition and ready to use.
We must always be on standby whether it rains or not
For example, Pluit Reservoir Pump House on Jl. Muara Baru Ujung Gedung No. 166, RT 21/17 Penjaringan Urban Village, North Jakarta.
Pluit Reservoir Pump House Operator, Hendry Kurniawan conveyed, this pump house is one of the flood control system in Jakarta that serves an area of 2,083 hectares. The pump house area reaches 80 hectares and its location is directly adjacent to Jakarta Bay.
Anticipating Flood, South Jakarta Apparatuses Asked to Be Prepared"There are three pump buildings and 10 stationer pumps in Pluit Reservoir Pump House," he said, Thursday (2/4).
Those three pump buildings consist of Pluit Timur Pump, Pluit Tengah Pump, and Pluit Barat Pump. There are 3 stationer pumps with capacity 5,000 liters per second/each in Pluit Timur Pump, 4 stationer pumps with capacity 4,000 liters per second/each in Pluit Tengah Pump, and 3 stationer pumps with capacity 6,000 liters per second/each in Pluit Barat Pump.
"If all stationer pumps are operating, the capacity will reach 49,000 liters per second. This pump houses system crosses vital objects such as Monas and State Palace," he explained.
This pump house directly drain the water to the sea. Both in sunny and rainy days, water level in Pluit Reservoir is maintained at -190 centimeters. In order to operate it, his side deployed 21 personnel which divided into 3 teams to be on standby to monitor the movement and water level at Pluit Reservoir Pump House.
"Each team consists of 7 personnel who work in shifts start from 8 AM to monitor pump house for 24 hours. Total 21 personnel, as well as 1 person in charge of the pump," he added.
Personnel also carried out routine maintenance by checking pump's condition, such as panels, oil, and so on. His side ensured that Pluit Reservoir Pump House is ready to operate in any condition.
"We must always be on standby whether it rains or not," he asserted.
So far, he continued, there is obstacle that often faced by officers when operating pump house, that is large amount of waste which carried away by water flow.
"Pile of garbage can block the water way. In a day, we can collect garbage up to 2 trucks, depending on rain intensity. If the rain intensity and water level are high, usually the more garbage we collected," he closed.
