Imlek Souvenir Sellers Began Rampant at Asemka Market

Approaching Chinese New Year celebration, locally known as Imlek that will fall on Friday (2/12), sellers of Imlek souvenirs have started lining up along the Asemka Market, Glodok Urban Village, Taman Sari, West Jakarta.

We sell souvenirs ranging from Rp 5,000 to millions for the Imlek tree

Even the atmosphere is getting more festive with decorations dominated by red and gold in almost every corner of the shop.

Bao Yu (35), one of Imlek souvenir sellers at Asemka Market expressed the market had been busy since the last week. Most shoppers bought angpao, lanterns and Chinese red packets sincia angpao.

"We sell souvenirs ranging from Rp 5,000 to millions for the Imlek tree," he expressed, Friday (2/5).

He admitted, in a day, he could earn around Rp 10-15 million per day. He also admitted to marketing his merchandise online.

"Moreover we are in the pandemic thus most choose to buy online," he said.

Meili Lestari, one of the shoppers, admitted that she had been a customer of Bao's shop for a long time.

"I'm here looking for metal buffalo angpau complete with typical Chinese decorations. Today I bought up to Rp 3 million for Imlek souvenirs," she uttered.
