January-November, Fire Kills 13 People

Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department recorded that fire cases along this year has killed 13 people.

Besides causing casualties, fire also injured 60 citizens and 13 firemen.

“Meanwhile, as many as 3,009 families or 11,979 people lost their homes,” he added.

According to Subejo, the loss suffered by fire throughout this year reaches Rp 364,705,750,000. That amount is a result of 374 houses burned, 203 public and trade buildings, 27 industrial buildings, 80 vehicles, and 261 properties.

About the cause of fire, it is still dominated by electricity short-circuit (632 cases), and then followed by stove explosion (59 cases), cigarette (55 cases), and miscellaneous (200 cases). For municipality hit the most by fire, it is West Jakarta with 251 cases.

“East Jakarta is in second place with 229 cases, South Jakarta 198 cases, North Jakarta 155 cases, and Central Jakarta 113 cases. In total, 946 fire cases happened in Jakarta from January until this month,” informed Subejo.

From those 946 fire cases, Subejo continued, the firemen managed to control 268 fire incidents, while the citizens successfully self-handled 31 cases.

“The total of firemen deployed in fire cases is 37,682 men,” he said.
