City Will Hold Rice Market to Save Rice Price

Ahead of Christmas and New Year 2015, rice price in the market has increased by 0.4 percent. To anticipate higher price, the Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) along with the State Logistics Agency's Regional Division (Divre) plan to hold rice market in five municipalities.

Jakarta KUMKMP Department Head, Joko Kundaryo admitted the rice market is planned to be held in the near future in order to anticipate the higher price hike as early as possible.

Kundaryo explained before operating the market, his department firstly held a coordination meeting with related units. Then the result is reported to Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama.

"Later on, Jakarta Governor will sent a petition letter to Trade and Agriculture Ministries. Perhaps, we will operate the rice market this week or next week, because rice price increased 0.4 percent. If its price keeps increasing up to 10 percent, it cannot be anticipated," he stressed, Saturday (11/8).

 

As planned, as many as 40 thousand tons of rice would be provided in the market. It is ensured able to control rice price, as long as the time is right.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Jakarta Puppeteers Association (Perpadi), Nelly Sukidi disclosed this week, rice price has increased between Rp 100-200 per kilogram. Thus it is still deemed fluctuative.

"If the city wants to hold rice market, just do it. Considering they have its own policy and parameter. For us, the price is still fluctuative," he stated.

He mentions the rice price type IR3 reaches from Rp 7,700-7,800 per kilogram. Previously, it was only Rp 7,600 per kilogram. Then for IR2 rice from Rp 7,800 per kilogram to Rp 8,900-8,000 per kilogram and IR1 rice from Rp 8,100 to Rp 8,200-8,300 per kilogram.
