Motorcycle Restriction, Free Double-Decker Bus is Prepared

The effort in parsing traffic in capital is continued by Jakarta Provincial Government with Metro Jaya Police. One of the policy is restricted the motorcycle rider crossing Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat until Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI). The policy will be socialized start from upcoming December.

As compensation, free double-decker bus is provided to accommodate the riders. Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Muhammad Akbar said so on Monday (11/10).

At first, five buses are provided for the riders. "So, the riders left the vehicle at parking lot and take the bus. There will be another five buses to be deployed," Akbar said.

Motorcycle is Restricted Passing Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat-HI

Akbar added that there is also evaluation for this policy after a month implementation.

The reason why the location is on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat up to HI, because the lane has better public transport and also integrated with corridor I (Blok M-Kota) Transjakarta bus. Also, many parking lot along the lane.

Vice Traffic Director of Metro Jaya Police, AKBP Bakharudin, explained the sanction for the offender is applied in stages. "We'll do counseling, socialization, and monitoring. Later, ticketing sanction is given," he explained.

In order to support this policy, his side will deploy personnel to arrange the traffic since the policy will also run for 24 hours.

The policy is applied based on accident rate which 67-70 percent is involving motorcycle and killed 60 percent of riders.
