LRT Jakarta Launches LRTJ Cyclist-Friendly Program

PT. LRT Jakarta launched LRTJ Cyclist-Friendly program that supports cyclists' mobility in using public transportation.

This cyclist-friendly service can be accessed at all train departure hours

Single bicycle users with maximum bicycle dimension of 170 cm x 70 cm x 125 cm now are able to bring their bicycle to Light Rain Vehicles (LRV) train.

PT. LRT Jakarta Operation and Maintenance Director, Indarto Wibisono said cyclist-friendly service can be accessed in LRT Jakarta starting March 24, 2021 with two destination and departure stations, namely Pegangsaan Dua Station and Velodrome Station.

"This cyclist-friendly service can be accessed at all train departure hours, which operated at 05:30-22:00," he mentioned, Wednesday (3/24).

He explained, cyclists will be placed in special train cars with maximum capacity of 8 cyclists in each series of train to provide comfort for other passengers.

"Tandem bicycle type cannot use this facility," he added.

According to him, LRT Jakarta has prepared facilities and infrastructure to support LRT cyclist-friendly program by providing special cyclist route through elevator to go to station area and special gate to enter the platform area.

LRT personnel will also check cyclist's temperature according to health protocols and check bicycle cleanliness before entering LRV.

"We provide guidelines, flow, and signs needed thus cyclists can experience the benefit in using LRT comfortably and safely," he stated.

Through this service, his side wanted to encourage people to use eco-transport as well as improving people's healthy lifestyle.

"Not only providing eco-friendly and sustainable mobility system, but it also a manifestation of first and last mile. It means, people can ride bicycle from home to transit place and take public transport, getting off, then riding bicycle again to its destination, and vice versa," he conveyed.

On the other hand, Indonesian Women Cycling Chairperson, Novita Purbasari appreciated LRT Jakarta's policy through LRTJ Cyclist-Friendly program.

"The facilities provided make cyclists and LRT Jakarta users feel comfortable and safe. Let's start cycling," she said.
