"Thank God, this morning, we as the government have a responsibility that today we can partially fulfill, by ensuring all Jakarta residents, including those who are facing economic difficulties, to receive assistance thus they can live a better life," said Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, who symbolically handed over the assistance to the beneficiaries, as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release, Friday (3/26).

He told the beneficiaries to use the assistance wisely and appropriately, thus it can help them to fulfill their basic needs.

"For children, this assistance can be used to fulfill their nutrition, all things needed to support children's growth and development. Likewise with people with disabilities. Through this program, hopefully they can fulfill their special needs with this card. While for elderly, we hope it can be used properly," he conveyed.

This social assistance (Bansos) is expected to provide short-term assistance, while Jakarta Government also continues to work on long-term assistance by improving education quality and providing job opportunities. It is intended to improve the quality of people who are less fortunate.

"Jakarta has various opportunities thus we can find families and individuals whose socioeconomic status is elevated because of the opportunities in this city. It gives us responsibility, as a government, to keep helping them who do not get welfare today to have the same opportunity to gain prosperity, in short term with social assistance and in long term through education and employment thus they can upgrade their class," he explained.

He also instructed Bank DKI as the side which distributes the social assistance to prioritize the beneficiaries.

"We hope Bank DKI can facilitate beneficiaries in making disbursement. I give this message to all ranks. Please treat the elderly like your own parents, treat them like platinum customers who deserve to get platinum service. Through them, we are given the opportunity from God to reap reward from them, therefore prioritize them," he asserted.

For information, Jakarta Elderly Card (KLJ) is one of Jakarta Government's programs to fulfill elderly citizens' needs where card holder can receive assistance Rp 600,000 every month. Requirements for obtaining assistance are Jakarta citizens aged 60 years and older with lowest socioeconomic status and registered in Integrated Data Base.

Jakarta Disability Card (KPDJ) is an assistance program aimed to prevent social vulnerability for people with disabilities in Jakarta, as well as meeting their basic needs. KPDJ program was launched on August 28, 2019.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Children Card (KAJ) is a program given to children from underprivileged families aged 0-6 years, has regional ID number (NIK), domiciled in Jakarta, outside of social houses owned by government and local government.
