Worthless, Water Channel Repair Project on Jalan Kapuk Raya

The Rp 2.6 billion repair project of water channel on Jalan Kapuk Raya, Kapuk Urban Village, West Jakarta, does not give any effect in solving flood problem in the area. As a proof, when rain pours, the road is still inundated up to 25 centimeters high.

The water channel repair project is worthless. The rain was not long, but the road was already inundated for 25 centimeters high

“The water channel repair project is worthless. The rain was not long, but the road was already inundated for 25 centimeters high. If the rain was long and heavy, imagine how high the flood would be,” expressed Chief of RW 01 Kapuk, Rinan (50), Friday (11/14).

According to him, the project was carried out in 2013. At that time, all water channels were replaced with U-shape concrete blocks. Unfortunately, the work was done carelessly.

“The water channel repair also has impact to Kampung Apung condition. Since the work was done carelessly, the water at Kampung Apung is still not receding until now. Whereas, the plan was if the water channel was good, the water at Kampung Apung would flow into the channel. But in reality, Kampung Apung is still inundated,” said Rinan.

Responding on this matter, Head of the West Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Pamudji, explained that originally the repair project of water channel on Jalan Kapuk Raya was expected would make the water inundating Kampung Apung recede.

“We’ve repaired the water channel. The road is probably inundated because of its low position, which should be heightened. Besides, the area is also prone to tidal flood,” he stated.
