Ahok: I Choose and Inaugurate Vice Governor Myself

Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama today, Wednesday (11/19), will be inaugurated as Jakarta Governor to substitute Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo who is now the president of Indonesia. For his vice, Ahok disclosed that not only he himself would choose the vice, but inaugurate the person as well.

According to him, such a thing refers to Government Regulation in lieu of Law No. 1/2014 about Regional Head Election that says the inauguration of governor and vice governor is done separately. However, Ahok is still reluctant to reveal the names of his vice that will be proposed to Jokowi.

“I will think about the vice later, whether it’s Raisa (Andriana) or Dian (Sastro). If the letter stating that I’m the one who will inaugurate the vice governor has been issued, I will choose the vice. So, the new version of vice governor now is a bit different, because I (governor) will be the one to inaugurate the person myself,” said Ahok, Tuesday (11/18).

For information, governor and vice governor inauguration is mentioned in article 172. While in article 170, it says that the vice governor position must be occupied at least a month after governor inauguration. The period of vice governor is the same as governor’s tenure. The person chosen to be vice governor can be someone who is not a civil servant.

The dateline of names of vice governor proposed is 15 days after governor inauguration. Vice governor chosen by the president is based on suggestion from Home Affairs Minister. If the governor did not submit the names of candidate vice governor, the official will be sanctioned according to the applicable rules.
