PPDB 2021 Today, Jakarta Realizes Equality in Education for All Residents' Backgrounds

The public school enrollment (PPDB) for 2021/2022 Academic Year in Jakarta has finally begun today, on Monday (6/7).

With limited capacity and uneven distribution of schools, there are 168 sub-districts have no public high schools and 86 sub-districts have no public junior high schools, so v arious PPDB selections must be applied

Jakarta Education Agency (Disdik) Head, Nahdiana revealed the Jakarta administration is committed to realizing equal educational opportunities for its residents from all backgrounds to get quality education in Jakarta.

In Jakarta, she expressed, there are 113 public early childhood education schools (SPAUDN), 1,332 public elementary schools (SDN), 292 public junior high schools (SMPN), 115 public senior high schools (SMAN), 73 public vocational schools (SMKN), 13 schools for children with disabilities (SLB), and 39 community learning activity centers (PKBM).

Central Jakarta Has Prepared PPDB 2021 Posts

As for the total capacity for public junior high schools compared to graduates from public and private elementary schools and madrasas could only accommodate 47.33% of students, while the total capacity for public high schools and public vocational schools compared to graduates from public and private junior high schools and madrasas could only accommodate 33.66 % of students.

"With limited capacity and uneven distribution of schools, there are 168 sub-districts have no public high schools and 86 sub-districts have no public junior high schools, so various PPDB selections must be applied. The agency has made preparations to form the most appropriate PPDB rules by conducting public test activities in a bid to get input from experts, practitioners, bureaucrats, academics and education stakeholders, as well as parents in the preparation of PPDB policies," she expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

The policy is also in line with the Education Minister Regulation number 1/2021 on PPDB to Kindergarten (TK), SD, SMP, SMA, and SMK. Aside that, the PPDB policy for 2021/2022 is contained in:

1. Gubernatorial Regulation number 32/2021 on Technical Instructions for PPDB

2. Gubernatorial Regulation number 608/2021 on School Zone List for PPDB

3. Gubernatorial Regulation number 609/2021 on Capacity of State Education Units in PPDB

4. Education Agency Decree number 466/2021 on Flow of 2021/2022 PPDB Implementation Process

While the PPDB path for the 2021/2022 academic year is divided:

1. Achievement Path: Giving appreciation to children who have demonstrated academic and non-academic achievements

2. Affirmation Path: Providing greater opportunities for children from poor families to access quality education subsidized by the Government

3. Zoning Path: Providing opportunities for children who live within the zoning area that has been determined by taking into account the distribution of schools, data on the distribution of the domicile of prospective students, and the capacity of the school's capacity which is adjusted to the availability of the number of school-age children at each level in the area

4. Parental and Teacher's Child Duties Transfer Path: Providing opportunities for children from families whose parents have changed jobs and for teachers' children who want to go to school where their parents work

"Hopefully it can run smoothly, as all Jakarta residents from various backgrounds have the opportunity to get a complete and quality education in this city. Thus it is capable of forming public schools with a high variety of students and a sense of mutual cooperation to move forward together,” he hoped.
