Public Transport Driver will Be Paid Rp 5 M Per Month

Next year, driver's salary could be Rp 5 million per month as long as they hold on the rupiah system per kilometer, instead of deposit system that causes congestion by picking up and dropping off passenger haphazardly

Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama plans to pay every public transport driver by Rp 5 million per month in Jakarta. Later on, its management will be handed over to PT Transjakarta.

According to Ahok, if the public transport is managed by PT Transjakarta, its driver will get salary. Thus there will be no more deposit system. They would get double pay from the provincial minimum wage (UMP).

"Next year, driver's salary could be Rp 5 million per month as long as they hold on the rupiah system per kilometer, instead of deposit system that causes congestion by picking up and dropping off passenger haphazardly. If they use the system rupiah per kilometer, they will remain receive salary," explained former regent of East Belitung, at City Hall, Thursday (11/20).

He acknowledged there was an agreement about regular public transport hikes by Rp 1,000. "In future, the important thing is public transport would be under PT Transjakarta," he disclosed.

Previously, Jakarta Transportation Department already held a meeting with Jakarta Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) and Transportation Council (DTKJ). In that occasion, the Organda filed public transport tariff to raise Rp 1,000 for mikrolet, big-sized city bus, and medium-sized city bus. It was finally agreed by the DTKJ.

As planned, today, Head of Jakarta Transportation Department Muhammad Akbar will submit the meeting results to Mr. Ahok to be ratified in a gubernatorial regulation.
