December, Pluit Reservoir Normalization Second Phase Begins

Jakarta Provincial Government is going to start the second phase of Pluit Reservoir dredging in upcoming mid-December. This normalization effort is expected would reduce the impact of flooding in the capital city.

Coordinator of Jakarta Reservoirs and Rivers Normalization, Heriyanto, said that after the first phase finished last December, his party will continue the dredging of the 60-hectare wide reservoir. Current Pluit Reservoir depth is about two meters, will be increased to more than seven meters deep.
“The second phase of Pluit Reservoir dredging will be started in upcoming mid-December, and is predicted to finish in six months,” he stated, Friday (11/21).
December, Pluit Dam Citizens Relocation Re-ContinuedAccording to Heriyanto, the dredging will be done using 20 backhoes and 2 dredgers to spurt and suck up the mud. By using these equipments, it is expected that 500-1,000 cubic of mud to be dredged per day from the reservoir.
In addition to dredging, residents’ houses stood atop the reservoir bank as well as on the wet-cross section will also be demolished. At this time, 200 buildings on the west side of the reservoir are in demolition process, while the residents have been relocated to Muara Baru Flat since the end of last October.
“After we selected, there are only 150 households entitled to get units in the flat. As for the rest of the buildings which have not been demolished by the residents, since yesterday we are helping them (demolish the buildings) using backhoes. It’s probably finished in a day or two,” he uttered.
