LH Agency Encourages People to Use Eco-Friendly Container for Sacrificial Meat

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency encouraged all committees for Eid al-Adha 1442 Hijri in Jakarta to use environmentally friendly container made from banana leaves, taro leaves, bamboo leaves, coconut leaves or pandan leaves to wrap the sacrificial meat.

ripudin advised qurban committees not to use single-use plastic bags as meat containers, especially black plastic bag."Plastic bag is a type of waste that takes hundreds years to decompose naturally. We encourage them to use containers made from eco-friendly materials that are easily to obtain in distributing sacrificial meat," he said, Monday (7/19).
KPKP Has Checked 38,864 Sacrificial Animals in 530 LocationsHe explained that black plastic bag is the result of recycling used plastics which contains of carcinogenic substance which is harmful for health.
"We also don't know the use of black plastic bag before it is recycled. In addition, various chemicals are added in processing it which can cause harmful effect on health," he stated.
Government's appeal for not using black plastic bags for foods had been echoed since a long time ago. Moreover, there are many alternative products which available on the market that are more environmentally friendly that can substitute single-use plastic.
"We urge the community to be eco-friendly in sacrificing to reduce amount of waste produced. Apart from offering sacrifices, we should also take care of our environment," he mentioned.
