Satpol PP officers controlled dozens of scavenger hut on Jalan Tanah Tinggi I, Tanah Tinggi Urban Village, Johar Baru Sub-district, Central Jakarta. Scavenger huts and carts were controlled due to blocking the road and make surrounding area looks dirty.

Option to live in social house has been given, but they refused

"The scavengers are from outside Jakarta, they have ID card but they don't have living space here, so they built the hut on the road," Heru Supriyono, Tanah Tinggi urban village head said Wednesday (11/26).

According to him, they built the hut there because their previous hut at the railroad has been raided by PT KAI. Whereas, the new land which they occupy now is not their own land.

"They built the hut here one by one after being raided there," he added.

Masroni, Johar Baru Sub-district Head stated, as much as 60 Satpol PP officers were deployed to demolish the hut. The effort run smoothly, no protest from scavengers.

"After this, I instruct the urban village head to plant trees on the demolition location. It aims to prevent scavengers' return. Option to live in social house has been given, but they refused ," Masroni explained.
