Staples Price Skyrocketing, City to Hold Market Operation

As an effort to suppress the skyrocketing price of staples caused by fuel (BBM) price hike, Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Department will soon hold inspection to some markets in the city.

We’re currently preparing the implementation of inspection to traditional markets that is scheduled to be held next week

“We’re currently preparing the implementation of inspection to traditional markets that is scheduled to be held next week. The inspection will not be done to all staple goods commodities, but focused on the goods which price hike is skyrocketing, like sugar,” stated Secretary of Jakarta KUMKMP Department, Irwandi, Thursday (11/27).

Based on beritajakarta.com observations in Serdang Market, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, the staples which price is skyrocketing are chili from Rp 20,000 per kilogram to Rp 55,000 per kilogram, sugar from Rp 10,000 per kilogram to Rp 12,000 per kilogram, and egg from Rp 18,500 per kilogram to Rp 19,000 per kilogram.

“Those prices are increasing in line with fuel price hike. Many buyers complained, but they cannot protest because it is their needs,” said Tata, Head of Serdang Market.
