City Gears Up to Invest in Construction of Airport in Karawang

If the investors are still in doubt, we will invest

The city administration plans to build an airport in Karawang Regency, West Java. Besides adding flight facility, the construction also aims suppress the logistics to the capital.

It becomes one of the main topics that discussed in the Forum of Regional Cooperation for Mitra Praja Utama (MPU) which took place at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (11/27).

Jokowi Discussed Airport Railways Project with PT KAI Director

Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama disclosed his party is ready to invest in such project. Before that, the Ali Sadikin airport capacity will be surveyed first which will be built in Marunda area, North Jakarta. If the airport is not yet able to accommodate passengers and goods flow toward Jakarta, the city administration declared its readiness to invest.

"If the investors are still in doubt, we will invest," he expressed, on the sidelines of Governor Working Meeting for MPU, at Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta, Thursday (11/27).

He ensured Jakarta will not lose money. This is because if many airports are connected to Jakarta, it could reduce the logistic cost. Even, his party also plans to build a port.

"We want to build the port, airport, to reduce the logistic cost. If the the airport is not efficient, it will be a problem," he explained.

Ahok continued the concept of territorial expansion is being undertaken by building facility and infrastructure in the buffer zones that could help the interests of Jakarta residents.

The concept is also reflected in the financial aid program to 8 buffer zones some time ago. But it does not a form of government intervention against the government in such zones. "Our intention is assistance in financial terms. While for the bureaucracy and power matters remain committed by each government," he uttered.
