January-October, 176 Fire Cases Occurred in Central Jakarta

The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency has noted that as many as 176 fire cases have occurred in Central Jakarta along January to October 2021.

Asril Rizal, Sub-agency Head of Central Jakarta Gulkarmat said, the highest case is caused by electricity short-circuit (111 cases), followed by gas leaks (20 cases), burning of waste (13 cases), cigarette butts (seven cases), candles (one case), and other causes (24 cases).

"Some 351 households or 1,296 people lost their homes during the fire, resulting in an estimated Rp 34.67 billion in losses with a burned area of 616,073 square meters," he expressed, Friday (11/5).

161 Fire Cases Happened in West Jakarta in January-July 2021

As for the fire cases, there were 40 cases in Tanah Abang, 26 cases in Kemayoran, 24 cases in Cempaka Putih, 20 cases in Menteng, 18 cases in Gambir, 17 cases in Johar Baru, 16 cases in Sawah Besar, and 15 cases in Senen.

"We always call on residents to be more vigilant and careful, especially in the use of electricity. Because in October, there were the most fires compared to other months, around 30 cases," he stated.
