Meter Parking Could Contribute Rp 150 M a Day to PAD

The implementation of meter parking is not only effectively in controlling illegal parking, but it is also increasing local revenue (PAD) significantly. If the system applied in a crowded area like Kelapa Gading, it is predicted could reap up to Rp 150 million a day.

On Jalan Boulevard Kelapa Gading, it is Rp 8 million a day. After being analyzed, (the PAD) could reach Rp 150 million a day

“(PAD) on Jalan Sabang (before the meter parking applied) was only Rp 500 thousand a day. Now it increases to Rp 15 million a day, and in the future it is predicted to reach Rp 20 million a day. While on Jalan Boulevard Kelapa Gading, it is Rp 8 million a day. After being analyzed, (the PAD) could reach Rp 150 million a day,” uttered Head of Parking Technical Management Unit (UPT) for Jakarta Transportation Department, Sunardi Sinaga, Saturday (11/29).

Because of that, meter parking system will soon be installed other areas. Besides on Jalan Sabang, the next targets are Jalan Juanda (Central Jakarta), Jalan Boulevard Kelapa Gading (North Jakarta), Jalan Pintu Kecil (West Jakarta), Jalan Falatehan (South Jakarta), and Jalan Balai Pustaka (East Jakarta).

e-Parking Meter System on Jalan Sabang Still Having Problems

According to Sinaga, those areas are chosen because of high parking demand there which leads to traffic congestion happened every day. To test the parking meter device’s resilience, it will be trialed first for three years. If the system went successful in those five areas, the device would also be installed in 400 other points in the capital city.

“We’ll involve private parties who want to invest with a system of revenue sharing, 30 percent for local government and 70 percent for them. But, the requirements are they must cover the parking attendants’ salary and the salary must be twice of province minimum wage (UMP),” he stated.

In addition, Sinaga stressed that the performance of existing parking attendants should also be changed, considering the parking areas will be using e-parking payment instead of cash money.

“This way is very effective to suppress the leakage happened all this time (from parking sector). To ease the public, a top-up machines are currently being prepared around the parking areas, or the payment can also be done in related banks,” he said.
