300,000 Jakartans Have Not Received e-KTP

The implementation of electronic ID card (e-KTP) program in the capital city is not running smooth. Evidently, as many as 300,000 Jakartans still have not received their e-KTP cards although they have done data recording since 2011.

Until now, 300,000 Jakartans yet receive the physics of e-KTP cards, while 500 others have not done data recording because they are still abroad or in other regions

Head of Jakarta Population and Civil Register Department, Purba Hutapea, said the total of Jakartans who are obligated to record their data for e-KTP is 7 million people. From that amount, 6.2 million people have done data recording and received the physics of e-KTP cards.

“Until now, 300,000 Jakartans yet receive the physics of e-KTP cards, while 500 others have not done data recording because they are still abroad or in other regions,” he told, Sunday (12/7).

According to Hutapea, this becomes a problem for Jakarta Provincial Government. This is because starting next year, population and civil register sub-departments in all areas are given the task to print the e-KTP cards independently.

“Home Affairs Ministry has ordered all population and civil register sub-departments to print the e-KTP cards independently next year. But, the citizens who have recorded data but yet receive the cards still remains a problem,” he stated.

Hutapea also questioned about whether there is difference between the amount of data record in regions and the data sent to central data of Home Affairs Ministry. If there was, most likely the citizens should conduct data recording again.

“It’s most likely the data recording had to be repeated. That’s why there should be explanation from Home Affairs Ministry Population and Civil Register General Directorate about what is really happening,” he asserted.

Hutapea revealed that next year his department is not only assigned to handle data recording and e-KTP distribution, but also to print the cards. Even so, the verification and e-KTP validation processes are still done by Home Affairs Ministry.

“It means that regions only need to print. The data is still sent to Home Affairs Ministry for verification. After the data is verified, regions then print the e-KTP cards. The budget for e-KTP cards printing, which includes ink, ribbon, and form procurement, all of it is under the authority of Home Affairs Ministry. We’re just assigned one additional task to print the cards,” he explained.
