Jakarta LH Agency Head Asep Kuswanto mentioned that the 1-hour outage was aimed at increasing public awareness of energy saving, economic saving, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
"We carried out the action on Saturday, March 26, 2022. From PLN's calculation, the power outage can have an impact on three things, namely energy savings, economic savings, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission," he said in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, as quoted from Jakarta PPID's Press Release, Saturday (4/2).
Earth Hour: Let's Turn Off Lights for One Hour Tomorrow NightBased on the PLN calculation table, a 1-hour outage resulted in electricity consumption saving by 171.44 MWh, an economy saving Rp 247,837,924, and reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by 160.23 tons of carbon dioxide.
It was carried out in accordance with Jakarta Governor's Instruction No. 14/2021 on Power Outages in the Context of Energy Saving and Reducing Carbon Emission, which appealed to turn off lights three times a year, namely on the commemoration of Environmental Action in March, Earth Day (April 22), and World Environment Day (June 5).
"A number of private-owned buildings, such as commercial buildings, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, and apartments also participate in power outages," he stated.
