Jakarta's Vision for the Future Discussed in Diskominfotik Kopitalk

The relocation of the state capital from Jakarta to the new capital city of Nusantara in Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan will be carried out immediately after the enactment of the state capital law some time ago.

The point is to achieve economy growth above 7%

In this regard, information was needed for the Jakarta Government apparatuses (ASN), especially the policy formulation team for the Jakarta Specificity Bill to define Jakarta's vision for the future. This was discussed in the third session of Public Communication (Kopitalk) in 2022 organized by Jakarta Communication, Information, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik) themed 'Jakarta: Milestone and After No Longer the Capital City' which was held virtually on Wednesday (4/7).

The Kopitalk invited a resource person named Hasan Basri Saleh, a member of the Jakarta Governor's Team for Acceleration of Development (TGUPP) who was also the Jakarta Assistant for Economic in 2010-2014. When Jakarta was no longer the capital city, he conveyed that the business economy would be important in Jakarta.

People Outside of Jakarta Can Take Part in Jakarta's Future

Regarding Jakarta being the center of the global economy, one of the important things that must be considered was the influence of Jakarta on the management of key facilities, such as ports and airports since Jakarta currently doesn't have a port or airport. This would be an important part of boosting Jakarta's economic growth which was expected to be above 7%.

"The point is to achieve economic growth above 7%, then we will talk about acceleration," he mentioned.

He warned that there would be a big impact on the change of capital status on the economy of Jakarta. For example, reducing income from taxes and consumption because 700 thousand people were estimated to move to the new state capital of Nusantara. Therefore, the Government should be smart in realizing a better Jakarta, one of which was by no longer relying on taxes and retribution.

"It needs a lot of breakthroughs, especially in improving services that can generate revenue from tariffs. We have to improve public service, even the best service, and improve the tax bases," he stated.

He said the state capital relocation process from Jakarta to Nusantara in Penajam Paser would take up to 2045. Gradually the impact on Jakarta would diminish. In the process, he continued, the Government should provide strong signals that Jakarta is ready to overcome floods, stop sinking, and improve its services.

He assessed that the transfer of capital status should be seen as an opportunity. Two key factors to optimize all opportunities in the future were regulation and human resources. The next two to three years would be a critical period for Jakarta to prove itself as a global business city.

"There are short, medium, and long-term plans. The short-term plan must also address the long-term plans," he closed.
