Motorcycle Ban, 500 Policemen Deployed on Main Roads

As many as 500 City Police officers are deployed to safeguard and the trial of motorcycle ban on Jalan MH Thamrin, starting from HI Roundabout until Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.

“Besides 500 personnel deployed on Jalan MH Thamrin until Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, 33 motorcycle ban signs also have been installed,” stated City Police Chief Insp. Gen. Unggung Cahyono, Wednesday (12/17).

According to Cahyono, these policemen will be put on standby for a whole month in a bid to smooth the socialization about motorcycle ban. However, during the socialization period, the offenders will not be ticketed and only be warned.

No Sanction for Bikers during Motorcycle Ban Trial Period

“We only reprimand them,” he said.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, policemen are guarding at every street light along Jalan MH Thamrin until Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat. While at HI Roundabout, tens of officers from the police, Transportation Department, and Satpol PP are directing bikers to turn left towards Tanah Abang, Penjernihan, and Slipi, or turn right towards Jalan Diponegoro and Imam Bonjol.

Law enforcement against bikers who pass on the motorcycle-free lanes at HI Roundabout until Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat begins to be applied on January 17, 2015.
