Motorcycle Ban, Where to Park? Here They Are

Jakarta Provincial Government prepares 12 parking lot along Bundaran HI - Jalan Merdeka Barat as supporting the motorcycle ban which trialed on December 17.

This policy is applied for the sake of rider's safety since the accident rate is almost 6 cases a day

The parking lot tariff is not free, it depends on the building management.

"We don't provide parking lot for riders since they can use in buildings along Jalan MH Thamrin. We provide free bus only," said Muhammad Akbar, Head Jakarta Transportation Dept., Tuesday (12/2).

Motorcycle Restriction Applied on December 17

His side can not do much regarding the parking tariff inside the building. It means the rider must spend more money for that.

"This policy is applied for the sake of rider's safety since the accident rate is almost 6 cases a day," Akbar added.

Before the policy is run, his side has coordinated with 12 office buildings in order to provide parking lot for motorcycle.

"Those 12 parking lots are Carrefour Duta Merlin Building (1,000 motorcycles), BDN Tower (400 motorcycles), Jaya Building (160 motor), Skyline Building (495 motorcycles), Sarinah (73 motorcycles), BII Building (640 motorcycles), Kosgoro Building (150 motorcycles), Plaza Permata (200 motorcycles), Oil Building (160 motorcycles), Grand Indonesia (1,950 motorcycles) and IRTI Monas (600 motorcycles)," he explained.
